Support KWAX today and save on taxes. It's possible when you give to the station through your IRA. And it's a great way to give if you're of the age to make required minimum distributions.
You can give any amount (up to certain maximums) from your IRA directly to a qualified charity - such as KWAX, via the University of Oregon Foundation - without having to pay income taxes on the money. You can feel good knowing that you are supporting KWAX in a smart and effective way with benefits for you. This popular gift option is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD for short.
Why consider a gift from your IRA?
- Your gift will be put to use today, allowing you to see (and hear!) the difference your donation is making.
- If you are required to take minimum distributions, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your obligation.
- You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.
- Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.
How do I make a Qualified Charitable Distribution to KWAX?
- Simply contact your IRA administrator, and request a direct qualified charitable distribution from your account to KWAX and the University of Oregon Foundation.
- Important! Request that the check be made payable to KWAX/The University of Oregon Foundation, and mailed to:
KWAX
c/o The University of Oregon Foundation
1720 E. 13th Ave., Suite 410
Eugene, OR 97403
Or, download this letter template to write to your plan administrator.
Note: QCDs are not deductible as charitable contributions on Schedule A. For more information, speak with a tax professional, visit the Smart IRA page from University of Oregon Gift Planning, see the IRS website, or call George Evano, station manager, 541-345-0800.
