KWAX Classical Oregon, the University of Oregon’s all-classical public radio station, will deck the halls and airwaves with 28 Christmas and holiday specials December 24-26, 2024.
The station will offer a holiday feast of classical performances from some of the world’s greatest artists, orchestras and choral groups, including “The Canadian Brass Christmas” at 3 p.m., “Joshua Bell and Friends Christmas Party” at 5 p.m., and Handel’s Messiah performed by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Chorus at 8 p.m., all on Christmas Eve.
Christmas Day highlights include the “St. Olaf Christmas Festival” at 8 a.m., “Christmas with the King Singers” at 2 p.m., and music from classic Christmas movies at 3 p.m..
Musical festivities continue on Chanukah, December 26 at 10 a.m., with “Sound the Shofar,” a program about how the distinctive instrument—made from a ram’s horn—is employed during the Jewish High Holidays. At 4 p.m., “Itzhak Perlman’s Chanukah Party” caps the KWAX holiday specials.
In addition to the three-day schedule of specials, the station is interspersing seasonal favorites and sacred works by great composers throughout its regular programming from now to the holiday, and most of KWAX’s regular programs will have a Christmas theme
